What is the Denver Jets Youth Hockey Association?

The Denver Jets is a youth hockey association based at Big Bear Ice Arena in Denver. We help kids learn the game, build confidence, make friends, and enjoy being part of a team.

What age groups do you offer?

Our inaugural season includes an an 8U program, as required by CAHA, with plans to add older age groups as our players grow.

Do the Jets have tryouts?

Does the Denver Jets 8U program hold tryouts?

We’ll evaluate players during our early practices to understand their skills and development needs. As this is our inaugural season, we may only have one team, with practice activities tailored to help players of different abilities learn, build confidence, and have fun together.

Where do the Jets practice and play?

Our home rink is Big Bear Ice Arena, which we call “The Hangar.”

Does my child need hockey experience?

There’s a place to get started at every stage. If your child is new to skating or hockey, we can help you determine whether Learn to Skate, Learn to Play Hockey, or the Jets is the right starting point.

What does the development pathway look like?

Our pathway is NHL Street → Learn to Skate → Learn to Play Hockey → Denver Jets. Your child can enter at the stage that best fits their experience and ability.

Does my child need to complete every step before joining?

Not necessarily. A child who already skates or has played hockey may be ready to join the Jets. Contact us and we’ll help you find the right fit.

What will practices look like?

Expect plenty of movement, puck touches, small-area games, and opportunities to learn by doing. Our approach follows USA Hockey’s American Development Model, with activities suited to each player’s age and development.

Will players use the full ice for games?

Our 8U programming uses cross-ice and half-ice formats. The smaller playing space helps kids stay involved, touch the puck more often, and build confidence.

Is the Denver Jets program approved by CAHA?

Yes! The Denver Jets has been approved for membership by the Colorado Amateur Hockey Association for the 2026–27 season.

Will the Jets offer older age groups in the future?

Yes. We plan to add 10U teams in our second year and continue growing from there, giving players the opportunity to stay with the Jets as they develop.

What is your coaching philosophy?

Athletes first, good people always, hockey players second. We want kids to develop their hockey skills while learning teamwork, respect, and how to support one another.

Who leads the program?

Our leadership team includes Director of Hockey Operations Sean Caple, President Bob Seavy, Vice President and Treasurer Aaron Kitchell, and Secretary Jennifer Bond. Visit our Staff page to get to know them.
